The first project of its kind – a film by and for 5-13 year olds nationwide. In a collaboration between Tate, Aardman and Fallon, thousands of children contributed their ideas to an animated movie, which was released in the summer of 2011 in cinemas and on the BBC.
At the project’s core was a community website featuring a virtual film studio with characters representing each part of the movie production. The virtual studio was the online gateway to the real film production studio, with the film’s producers continuously requesting specific content from the children via the active online community and through updates to the site’s animated characters. Using the creative tools on the site the children were able to create scripts, sounds, artwork and short animated clips, all of which could be submitted as ideas for the final film. The thriving community around the site were able to connect with buddies, comment on other people’s work and discuss the film in the website forum.
